The Insolvency Lawyers’ Association (ILA) has announced that Adam Plainer, Head of the Business Finance and Restructuring Group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges (London) LLP, has been appointed its next President, with effect from April 2nd 2017. Adam succeeds Euan Clarke, dispute resolution partner at Linklaters.
Adam said of his appointment, “I am honoured to be succeeding Euan as President of the Insolvency Lawyers’ Association. The ILA is the UK’s pre-eminent body representing restructuring and insolvency lawyers across the country and I am privileged to have the opportunity to serve as its President. I look forward to working with the ILA Council and members to ensure that the ILA is firmly at the forefront of developing insolvency law best practice, both in the UK and further afield.”
Weil London Managing Partner Michael Francies commented, “We are delighted that Adam has accepted the position of President of the ILA. As a senior partner and a widely-respected figure in the restructuring market Adam is ideally placed to advance and promote restructuring and insolvency practice beyond his leadership at Weil.”
Adam also said “The ILA has a superb, and well-deserved, reputation for sharing know-how and expertise and for working effectively with Government and other bodies to clearly represent the industry’s views. My goal is to ensure that this reputation is extended, and enhanced, confirming the ILA’s position as one of the most effective industry bodies in the UK.”
Adam has been ranked for over a decade as one of the world’s leading insolvency and restructuring practitioners. He has participated in many of the largest and most significant corporate restructurings in the market, including leading the team advising KPMG as joint administrators in the ground-breaking case of MF Global UK’s special administration. He is the outgoing President of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) UK and is regularly sought out as a speaker and industry expert.
